Internship Opportunities


The Sports Commission prides itself on offering students and recent grads the opportunity to develop their professional and leadership skills. Many of our interns have gone on to work with the Phoenix Suns, the Dbacks, the University of Phoenix Stadium, FSN Arizona and many more. The Sports Commission is a great place to learn about the tourism industry and working with sports through a nonprofit organization.

If you are a college student or recent graduate, the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission has several exciting volunteer opportunities available. Below is brief description of our positions and what we are looking for. Brief Outline of Internship Positions

Event Planning – This position allows interns to learn the process of planning a non-profit event(s).  Interns will learn about leveraging resources, engaging sub committees, communicating with volunteers. They will be expected to play an active role in the assistance of the actual event as well as execution of prior event procedures.  It is necessary for interns to be capable of developing and drafting documents from scratch, setting up event databases, and managing all event information. This internship also will provide training on website maintenance, registration programming through our unique online registration tool, as well as AdobeIndesign.

Sales and Marketing – This position allows interns to gain sales, business development, and corporate sponsorship experience.  Interns will work alongside the marketing manager to put together proposals to pitch to companies and local businesses.  This position will also be used in event operations and volunteer management positions.  It is necessary for interns to be capable of developing and drafting documents from scratch, setting up event databases, and to be confident on the phone.

Research and Special Projects – Interns in this position will have the opportunity to do extensive research for grants, developing new local events and tournaments, and unique programs for implementation. The intern will get hands-on experience in the development of programs and ideas that would further enhance the mission. Special projects will allow the intern to gain experience in a myriad of different aspects of a nonprofit organization, the tourism industry, and sports as an economic impact for the community.
